Betty was elected in November 2006 to serve as the First District Member on the State Board of Equalization after serving two years as the Acting Member for the First District. She earned over 1.5 million votes, or 65 percent of the vote, in that election, and was unanimously elected by her colleagues on the Board to serve as the Chairwoman during her first year in office. Betty continues to work hard to uphold California’s tax laws to ensure taxpayers are treated fairly and to protect funding for critical public services such as K-12 and higher education, health care, public safety, transportation, and natural resource and environmental protection.
