A State Worth Fighting For: Betty Yee Visits the Eastern Sierra

September 18, 2025

California gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee recently brought her campaign to the Eastern Sierra, making her the first candidate in the race to visit the region. During the weekend, Yee connected with local residents at fireside chats in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, where she listened closely to concerns about housing, healthcare, and environmental protection.

In addition, her packed itinerary included visits to Mono Lake and the Whitebark Institute to learn firsthand about ecological challenges, as well as time with Coalition Mammoth, a grassroots group amplifying Millennial and Gen Z voices.

Throughout the trip, Yee emphasized that California is worth fighting for, while calling for accountability in government, investments in healthcare, housing affordability, and climate resilience. She highlighted California’s role as a global economic leader and stressed the need to create opportunities that match the state’s diversity.

Moreover, Yee spoke passionately about bridging generational divides, tackling housing and education costs, and ensuring young people can build a future here. “This is a state worth fighting for. This is a democracy worth fighting for,” she told attendees.

Finally, from wildfire preparedness to universal healthcare pilots, Yee outlined bold ideas while centering her campaign on listening to Californians. Because she is a lifelong numbers person and former State Controller, she underscored that accountability and smart investment are key to building a stronger, more equitable California.
