Betty Yee

For Vice Chair, California Democratic Party

Betty Yee

I am running for Vice Chair because now is time for the California Democratic Party to bridge the disconnect between the lived experiences of Californians and our actions. We need to uplift communities by elevating the voices of emerging leaders with intention and urgency. Diverse leadership in elected offices from school board to State Senate sends the message that our party is dedicated to representation that reflects California. And this leadership must be stewards for our planet and the economic health of our families. Please read more about our campaign.

People ask about why the State Controller would run for Vice Chair of the Democratic Party. I appreciate the question because it lets me tell my story. I was always the underdog. How could the daughter of Chinese immigrants dream to be holding the statewide constitutional office of Controller? The answer is in organizing, reaching out to all corners of the state, listening, and caring. As an elected leader I have always dedicated every bit of my volunteer time to help elect Democrats all over our state. I want to infuse our party with that energy, that determination, and that know-how.

We can ensure the largest Democratic Party in the United States leads in moving forward to rebuild a more just and inclusive economy and society. The bitter divisions we are witnessing across our nation have every potential to take hold more deeply in our state. The actions of this Democratic Party must be grounded by the authentic lived experiences of Californians in all our regions and communities.

It is time for the California Democratic Party to be the standard bearer for true and lasting economic justice and racial equity. Every action we take must build community power and resiliency – and it must happen in every part of our state.

Millions of Californians are depending on us. Millions of Americans are looking to us.

I would be honored to earn your support and vote for Vice Chair of our California Democratic Party.
